NIU’s Andrea Drott receives the Outstanding Advisor Award from Edward H. Hammond, president of Fort Hays State University and chair of the BACCHUS Network Board of Trustees.
Andrea Drott, interpersonal violence prevention health educator in Health Enhancement, recently was awarded the Outstanding Advisor Award at the 2012 BACCHUS Network General Assembly.
Drott supervises the Pause Off! Peer Theatre Troupe, a group of undergraduate students who provides educational presentations regarding healthy relationships, interpersonal violence prevention and safer social habits to NIU students in a variety of venues.
With her support and guidance, Pause Off! has grown from a few reluctant undergraduates to several enthusiastic and active student leaders.
One of her student nominators stated “[she] has …been a source of knowledge, compassion, wisdom and inspiration … she … goes above and beyond the duties required by an advisor.” Another student stated “helping students comprehend the cycle of violence and the long term effects of sexual violence is a daunting task. Yet, Andrea Drott enters each day and each situation with empathy and determination of making the campus community a safer place for everyone.”
Adding to her list of recent awards, Drott was the recipient of the 2012 Excellence in Service Award for Youth Outlook, a nonprofit organization in Northern Illinois dedicated to serving LGBTQ adolescents. She was recognized for her tireless commitment as a youth leadership coordinator for the last five years. As part of her dedication to always putting the development of youth first, Drott coordinates the agency’s volunteer training.
Along with her daily responsibilities in Health Enhancement and with Pause Off!, Drott is active with Student Affairs & Enrollment Management’s Interpersonal Violence Programming and Networking Committee and the Presidential Commission on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity.
She also is a BASICS coach and is a facilitator and trainer for the Speak Up, Get Help, JUST ACT bystander training.
