Tuesdays are tops at NIU for transfer students

Every Tuesday at Northern Illinois University is a special day for students ready to complete their bachelor’s degrees at a four-year university.

Transfer Tuesdays at NIU offer prospective students a great opportunity to learn about the NIU community, the transfer admission process and transfer student resources.

Joining the “Huskie Nation” comes complete with courses taught by world-class professors, opportunities for faculty-guided undergraduate research at a Carnegie-recognized institution as well as an instant connection to a nationally ranked graduate school.

“We have so many great resources and programs to offer transfer students here at NIU, “says Andrew Hlubek, associate director of admissions. “Our Transfer Tuesday events are great opportunities for students to meet face-to-face with our admissions counselors and take the next steps toward becoming a part of the Huskie family.”

Visitors also can take a tour of campus, view a transfer-specific presentation, meet one-on-one with transfer admission counselor and ask transfer-related questions.

Transfer Tuesdays at Northern Illinois University are held from 1:45 to 4:15 p.m. every Tuesday at the Barsema Alumni and Visitors Center on the NIU campus in DeKalb.

During the events, NIU will waive the $40 application fee.

Though most information about the NIU experience is available online, Hlubek said a campus visit is the best way for students to get introduced to the university.

“Transfer Tuesdays are geared specifically toward transfer students so the focus is on transition,” Hlubek adds. “We talk about issues that matter most to transfer students, from how to find out if courses transfer, where to find veterans services, housing options – you name it. We understand transition at NIU, and we’re here to answer students’ questions immediately.”
