And now for something kind of fun and completely different on a spring Friday afternoon from Northern Illinois Athletics …
Thursday night at the Egyptian Theatre in DeKalb, during the annual NIU Athletics awards show, “The Victors,” one of the most shocking moments of the night was provided by Jeff Compher, NIU associate vice president and director of Athletics.
The deal
Compher shaves his head if the Huskies win a MAC title.
The result
The Huskies have brought home four MAC titles so far in 2011-12 as football, volleyball, men’s soccer and men’s tennis all have won MAC championships.
The action
Representatives from each championship team took turns shaving Compher’s head on stage in front of nearly every member of the athletic department and nearly every NIU student-athlete – an audience of nearly 600 people. Only a select few knew in advance that the skit would end this way.

Priceless for all who were lucky enough to witness it.
