The Northern Illinois University softball team lost its doubleheader Friday with Ohio University at Ohio Softball Field.
The Huskies (18-26, 6-8) lost Game 1, 4-1, and suffered a 9-3 setback to Ohio (18-23, 7-5) in the nightcap.
OU jumped out to early leads in both game. In the first contest, the Bobcats took a three-run lead in the bottom of the second inning, before tacking on an additional run in the third. The Huskies, who had one hit through five innings, pounded out three hits in the sixth inning to tally their lone run of the game, making the score 4-1.
The Bobcats bats stayed hot in Game 2, scoring nine runs on 18 hits. Ohio raced out to a 5-0 lead with a run in the first with the big blow coming in the bottom of the third. OU plated four Bobcats in the inning.
The lone bright spot for the Huskies came in the sixth inning. Trailing 7-0, Ashley Kopp (Burr Ridge, Ill./Hinsdale South) belted her first career home run, a three run shot over the left field fence to pull NIU to within four. Ohio responded with two runs in the bottom of the frame.
The Huskies are back in action Saturday when NIU opens a two-game series at Akron. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. Central Time.
