SA hosts Greek Unity Stroll Competition Friday

March 28, 2012

Welcome to the YardNIU’s Student Association will host the inaugural Greek Unity Stroll Competition at 7 p.m. Friday, March 30.

Strolling is a type of judged, choreographed line dance to be performed by each group. Fraternities and sororities will compete for prizes. A dance party will follow the stroll competition.

Tickets cost $5 for the entire event, which takes place inside the NIU Convocation Center. Alumni tickets are $10. Tickets are on sale through Friday at the Convocation Center box office and the Holmes Student Center box office outside the Blackhawk.

“The purpose of this event is to unite all of the Greek councils in an effort to promote unity on campus,” said Tashyana Wells, SA director of cultural affairs  “By uniting the Greek councils, our hope is that we will bring together a diverse crowd of students, thereby promoting mutual understanding and emphasizing the cultural backgrounds of each Greek organization.”

Guests at the event will include various faculty and staff members on campus who are unfamiliar with the NIU Greek community.

“It is our hope that these faculty and staff members will gain an understanding of and an appreciation for Greek life at NIU by attending this event,” Wells said.
