Outdoor Adventures goes west in May

March 28, 2012

Utah rock formationNIU’s Outdoor Adventures is capping off the school year by offering a trip westward to Utah and a visiting stop to Colorado.

The trip takes place from Monday, May 14, through Friday, May 25.

Colorado is known for its epic hiking and abundant mountain scenery. Many travelers speculate that late spring and early summer is the most visually striking time to visit the area with its blooming wild flowers and snow-melt streams. There are amazing sights to behold, and the itinerary is adaptable to meet participants’ interests.

Southern Utah is the pinnacle of canyon recreation. Its abundance of staggering rock formations, slot canyons and incredible changes in topography make it a mecca for hikers, backpackers, campers, mountain bikers and climbers alike.

Activities will include backpacking, camping and hiking as well as an option to rent and ride mountain bikes for a day. Travelers will visit Arches and Canyonlands national parks.

Anyone interested in attending this adventure should attend an information night at 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, at the Adventure Center, located in the Student Recreation Center. Registration for members and non-members is available online.

The center also is open from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, call (815) 753-9423 or email clagattolla@niu.edu.
