For the first time in his Northern Illinois career, freshman Dor Amir was selected as the Mid-American Conference’s Men’s Tennis Player of the Week.
It is the second-consecutive weekly award for the Huskies and the third this season.
Amir, a native of Israel, earned the honor after finishing 2-0 in a match against No. 68 Brown. With doubles partner Axel Lagerlof at No. 1, Amir defeated the Bears duo of Michael Riechman and Tom Deighton, 8-4.
Shortly after the doubles match, Amir made short work of his opponent Brandon Burke at No. 1 and defeated the Ivy Leaguer, 6-1, 6-2. Northern Illinois lost 5-2 to Brown.
It is the second-consecutive week the Huskies have won the award, as Mikhail Titov received the honor last week, finishing with a 3-1 record that included a singles win at No. 5 versus Wisconsin. It is first honor of Amir’s career.
After winning all eight of his matches this weekend, 4-0 in singles and 4-0 in doubles, Amir improves to 15-3 singles play and 14-5 in doubles during the spring season.
Northern Illinois will open its MAC season March 23 with a contest at Western Michigan.
