2012 football season tickets, mini-plans on sale

Akeem Daniels TD celebrationSeason tickets for the 2012 Northern Illinois football games at Huskie Stadium, including the full six-game package, the popular three-game Mini-Plan and the new Huskieland Plan, are now available for purchase through the NIU Athletics Ticket Office.

Season ticket holders for 2012 and Huskie Athletic Support Fund members can also now order tickets to Soldier Field Showdown III, Northern Illinois’ Sept. 1 game versus Iowa at the landmark Chicago stadium.

Northern Illinois is coming off back-to-back, 11-win seasons and will take a nine-game winning streak, the nation’s longest, into the 2012 campaign after winning the 2011 Mid-American Conference Championship and the GoDaddy.com Bowl in Mobile, Ala.

The Huskies’ 2012 home schedule includes non-conference games Sept. 8 versus Tennessee-Martin and Sept. 22 versus Kansas, as well as visits from MAC foes Bowling Green, Toledo, Central Michigan and Massachusetts. (Dates of those games will be released by the league in March.)

The six-game package is priced at just $120 and represents a 33 percent discount off the 2012 single game price, as well as access to the best seats in the stadium for every game. NIU faculty and staff, members of the NIU Alumni Association, senior citizens (62 and older) and youth (18 and younger) season tickets are $110.

Beginning this year, full season ticket holders will receive priority in the “Level 1″ areas of Huskie Stadium unless they request different seating.

Coach Dave Doeren and the NIU Huskies take the field Saturday in Chicago.

Again this year, Northern Illinois is offering the popular season ticket mini-plan, with fans able to choose any three Huskie Stadium games, including Homecoming, for just $60. Mini-plan purchasers will be seated in the Level II areas of the facility, and will have the same seat for every game.

The Huskieland Plan, NIU’s newest season ticket offering, offers purchasers something more. A three-game package featuring the Tennessee-Martin, Kansas and Toledo games (no substitutions) for $60, the Huskieland Plan also comes with three $15 gift cards – good for purchases at three popular DeKalb businesses – Hy-Vee Supermarket, Buffalo Wild Wings and the Village Commons Bookstore (VCB). Fans will get $45 worth of gift cards to these locations for EVERY Huskieland Plan ticket purchased. Huskieland Plan tickets will be located in Section G.

“We’re excited to offer the new Huskieland Plan this season,” said Jeff Compher, NIU associate vice president and director of Athletics. “Thanks to our partner, IMG College, and our relationships with Hy-Vee, Buffalo Wild Wings and Village Commons Bookstore, fans can see three exciting games for an incredible value. For fans who have only attended one game a year in the past, this is a tremendous option and we really hope a lot of people will take advantage of it.”

Mini-plan and Huskieland Plan purchasers are eligible to order tickets to Soldier Field Showdown III on a priority basis along with all other season ticket holders. Those orders must be received by Tuesday, May 1, as tickets to Soldier Field Showdown III will go on sale to the general public Monday, May 7, via Ticketmaster. The last time Northern Illinois and Iowa played at Soldier Field, on Labor Day Weekend 2007, the game sold out in a few short months.

There is no limit to the number of Iowa game tickets that NIU season ticket holders and donors may purchase. However, only the number of tickets equal to the season tickets purchased will be allocated in the first round of loyalty point allocations, which will take place Wednesday, May 2.

The rest of the tickets will be allocated at a later date and will not be located with the initial group.

Student tickets to the Northern Illinois-Iowa game will be available for $25 each. Detailed information will be sent directly to students later this spring.

NIU fans are urged to order their season tickets and Soldier Field Showdown tickets as soon as possible, and no later than the May 1 deadline, in order to receive seating priority in the Northern Illinois sections.

In addition to the discounted pricing for season tickets this year, season ticket holders receive the best seat locations. That advantage becomes even more pronounced in 2012 as, for the first time, NIU announced three pricing levels for single game tickets.

The single game price for tickets in sections C,D and E (roughly between the 35 yard lines), where full season ticket holders are placed, are priced at $30 per game, $20 for senior citizens and youth. Tickets in Level II – located between the goal line and 35 on each end of the stadium – are priced at $24 and $18 (seniors/youth), while Level III tickets (end zones) are $20 and $15.

Single game tickets for all Huskie Stadium games will go on sale July 2.
