Feel the beat and find your groove in this top notch high school regional jazz band, sponsored by the NIU Community School of the Arts.

The openings are for trumpet, trombone and bass. Interested players need to be between the ages of 14 and 20 and are expected to audition.

To schedule an audition, call the community school office at (815) 753-1450.

Rehearsals begin Sunday, Sept. 11. The group rehearses throughout the school year from 6:15 to 8:15 p.m. Sundays in the NIU Music Building. The group plays three concerts a year in the Boutell Memorial Concert Hall and also plays occasionally at The House Cafe in DeKalb.

The group is directed by Donnie Norton, an alumnus of the NIU School of Music, where he played in the Jazz Ensemble. He has directed the group since 2009 and plays saxophone in the Chicago area. He teaches saxophone for the community school and has been a combo leader at the NIU Jazz Camp for the past two years.
