Power outage planned for DuSable, Watson

August 16, 2011

Photo of a plug in a wall outletAn emergency electrical power outage that will shut off electrical power to DuSable Hall and Watson Hall has been scheduled from 5 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Aug. 17.

This will be a controlled power outage and will enable the electrical shop to address an emergency situation that, if left unattended, could well result in a future unplanned/uncontrolled and more complex electrical power outage of likely longer duration.

All building occupants are advised to make the necessary adjustments and/or shutdown of sensitive systems and equipment.

Please take care to ensure that all arrangements are taken as necessary during this time period for the care of items dependent upon electrical power and/or the items stored in such units. Please also note that the electrically based alarm systems in these buildings will be disabled during this time period.

Direct supervisory staff in the units located in these buildings have flexibility in providing alternative work locations and assignments, extending the use of accumulated vacation/compensatory time to cover this time frame, or even establishing flex schedules to offset some potential non‑work period.

Understandably, it might not be possible to simply close or shut down all operations in each unit in these locations. Therefore, some employees might still be required to report to their work location during this time frame to provide basic services and/or support functions.

Please bring this notification to the attention of any relevant organizations/individuals which might be adversely impacted by this activity.
