Members of NIU’s Operating Staff combined business with pleasure during their annual StaffFest luncheon held July 28.
About 900 employees and retirees who attended the luncheon collected $840 in donations for the American Red Cross. They also collected and donated shopping bags full of toothpaste, soap, combs, shaving cream and other items.
The Red Cross will use the money for local and nationwide disaster relief programs and distribute the donated items in Comfort Care kits.
“It’s nice that we can do this for the Red Cross,” said Andy Small, president of the NIU’s Operating Staff Council. “The Red Cross does so many worthwhile things for the community.”
About 1,750 employees belong to NIU’s Operating Staff.
