NIU historian E. Taylor Atkins, who recently published a new book, titled “Primitive Selves: Koreana in the Japanese Colonial Gaze, 1910-1945,” will conduct a presentation, book-talk and book-signing Saturday, Oct. 16.
Atkins is donating royalties from the book to the Tahirih Justice Center, a not-for-profit organization that arranges pro-bono legal, medical and social services for immigrant women in the United States who have experienced gender-based violence, trafficking and marriage brokerage.
Saturday’s event begins at 4 p.m. at Borders Books and Music, 2520 Sycamore Road in DeKalb. There will be a presentation on Tahirih followed by a short talk about the book and the book-signing. Copies will be available for purchase.
The book is published by the University of California Press.
